Message from the Secretary

Bangladesh’s private sector is an indispensable pillar of the country’s economic and social development. Millions of private-sector employees contribute every day through their knowledge, skills, experience, dedication, and hard work, playing a vital role in the growth of their respective organizations and in the advancement of the national economy.

Yet, despite their significant contribution, many private-sector employees continue to face challenges relating to professional dignity, workplace security, social protection, welfare, and awareness of their legitimate rights. In particular, a lack of adequate knowledge about labour laws and employment-related regulations often prevents employees from understanding and exercising the rights and benefits to which they may be legally entitled.

It is against this important backdrop that the Bangladesh Private Employees Welfare Society (BPEWS) has been established as a responsible, non-political, welfare-oriented, and rights-based platform dedicated to the overall well-being of private-sector employees.

Our vision extends beyond the formation of an organization. We aspire to develop a credible, inclusive, and sustainable national platform where private-sector employees can gain knowledge about their rights and responsibilities, strengthen their professional capabilities, receive appropriate guidance, and participate in initiatives that promote their welfare and dignity.

We firmly believe that knowledge of the law is one of the fundamental foundations of rights protection. Therefore, BPEWS places particular importance on increasing awareness of labour laws, employment regulations, lawful entitlements, workplace responsibilities, and available mechanisms for addressing workplace-related concerns. We want every private-sector employee to be better informed about both their legitimate rights and their professional responsibilities.

The safety, dignity, and equal opportunity of women in the workplace are equally important to our mission. Workplace harassment, sexual harassment, discrimination, intimidation, and other forms of inappropriate conduct have no place in a respectful and professional working environment. BPEWS seeks to promote awareness, preventive measures, responsible workplace practices, and access to lawful avenues of redress so that women and men can perform their professional responsibilities in an environment that is safe, respectful, and free from harassment.

At the same time, we recognize that employees and employers are not adversaries; they are essential partners in building successful and sustainable organizations. Mutual respect, trust, fairness, professionalism, accountability, and constructive dialogue are fundamental to creating a healthy and productive workplace. Accordingly, BPEWS seeks to encourage positive and harmonious relations between employees and employers while upholding the legitimate rights and dignity of the workforce.

Another important area of our concern is the growing challenge of unemployment and the need for a skilled workforce. We believe that skills development, vocational and professional training, knowledge sharing, and employability enhancement can play a meaningful role in expanding employment opportunities and preparing individuals for an increasingly competitive labour market. BPEWS therefore aims to encourage initiatives that strengthen professional competence and develop skilled human resources capable of contributing effectively to the nation’s economy.

Our aspiration is for BPEWS to evolve into a trusted and effective national platform that brings together private-sector employees from diverse professions, organizations, and regions under a shared commitment to welfare, professional development, dignity, and responsible citizenship.

Throughout this journey, integrity, transparency, accountability, professionalism, inclusiveness, humanity, and responsible governance will remain central to our institutional values. We believe that the true strength and sustainability of an organization depend not only on its structure, but also on the trust, participation, ethical conduct, and collective responsibility of its members.

I firmly believe that an informed, skilled, united, and responsible private-sector workforce can contribute significantly to building a fairer, safer, more dignified, and more productive working environment. BPEWS seeks to be a responsible partner in that long-term journey.

I therefore invite all members, private-sector professionals, employers, labour and legal experts, social organizations, development partners, well-wishers, and other stakeholders to engage constructively with BPEWS. Your knowledge, experience, cooperation, and active participation will be instrumental in strengthening our initiatives and advancing our shared objectives.

Let us work together to build a future where every private-sector employee can move forward as a rights-aware, responsible, skilled, secure, and respected professional, contributing meaningfully to both organizational success and national development.

May the journey of BPEWS toward the welfare, rights, dignity, professional advancement, and social well-being of private-sector employees be sustainable, inclusive, impactful, and worthy of the trust placed in this organization.

With the collective support and sincere participation of all stakeholders, I am confident that BPEWS will continue to move forward with purpose, integrity, and determination toward fulfilling its vision.

Strength in Unity — Progress through Trust — Commitment to Welfare.
